So I can’t tell if my fish is dying or not. I don’t think goldfish technically “sleep”, but this one has been floating on his side on and off for days. My husband’s assistant says I should just flush him and get it over with, I don’t really see myself as some sort of fish mercy killer.
We take pet raising seriously here. Our four children have two dogs (big and small), two fish (perky and sleepy) and a recently departed dwarf hamster. We don’t even own the narcoleptic fish, friends who moved to London gave him to us for safekeeping. Word was out on the street that we can keep goldfish alive long past the usual few months.
The pressure is unbearable. I’ve already failed in the care and keeping of the tiny rodent who now has a headstone in between the hydrangea bushes, I can’t be responsible for killing someone else’s fish. So for now I choose to believe he suffers from a sleep disorder, wouldn’t you if you spent your days swimming in a circle? Wait….I think I do.

Nooo, don’t flush goldie…
