Did I mention that Jenna is back from sleep-away camp? And that, while at camp, she developed an interest in tennis. It is really ironic, because I have been begging her to take lessons for years. She has refused to the point of tears, literally. Last time I tried to get her to take lessons -- just this past spring -- we ended up leaving the courts with her crying in the backseat before the lesson even started.
But that was then.
Now that she has gone to camp, she has developed a love for tennis. Did I mention she was the recipient of the camp tennis award? That's right. She was the best tennis player at camp.
Yet another example of the strange but very real phenomenon, whereby children fuss and cry about things when they are with their mothers, then excel at them when their mothers are nowhere nearby. Frustrating but true.
Has anyone else experienced such a thing?

Children are naturally programmed to resist their parents after a certain age - it's the only way they'd leave the nest when they grow up. It's nothing against you personally, it's just the way their brains work. I remember doing the same thing to my parents growing up.
