Just back from a fabulous week in Nantucket, one of our favorite places. I had some thoughts about family vacations that may seem obvious, but I am going to write them down anyway for all you novices out there.
1. Renting a house or a villa is a better choice than staying in a traditional hotel room. That way you do not have to eat out 3 meals a day, every day.
2. Stay somewhere where you’ll be close to everything, so you can walk or bike just about everywhere. It is so much easier.
3. Don’t forget to take some time for yourself every day — even if it’s just for a half-hour walk. Family vacations are exhausting and you need to keep your own tank full so you can be there for your family.
4. Go with the flow. It is tough to be out of your normal routine, just go with it and let the days happen.
5. Sitting on a beach is one of the most relaxing places you can be. For me, nothing beats watching my kids laugh and play together in the waves.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer!
