Time-Saving Idea: The Present Closet

August 3, 2007 11:01 AM

With 4 kids ages 4, 7, 9, and 11, I find that there is a different birthday party for at least one of my kids to attend, at least once a week. Which is great -- I am thrilled that my kids are reasonably social -- but as a working mom (and let's face it, every mom is a working mom), I don't really have time to go to the toy store every week!
So what I do is keep a fully stocked "present closet" at all times. Every few months I go to Target (you can go to any discount retailer that sells toys) and stock up on under $20 gifts: lego sets, board games, puzzles, etc. I get toys that appeal to the different ages of my 4 kids of course, and try to find gifts that would appeal to both boys and girls. I also buy about 6 rolls of wrapping paper.
Then I go home, and that night after the kids go to bed, I pour myself a glass of wine (totally optional of course) and start wrapping! I put a little post-it note on each gift so that I'll know what's inside after it's wrapped. I label each gift with these cute stickers I bought on www.tinyprints.com. They are adorable and I got a set for each of my kids. They say things like, "Happy Birthday xoxo Your friend Jenna" with really cute background designs.
I store all the presents in a closet and then, each week when I have a birthday party on the schedule, I don't have to also schedule in a trip to the toy store.
Try it, it is a great time saver!

I love this idea! I do something similar with gifts in general- i.e. for Christmas, weddings, bdays...but I hadn't thought of implementing the same idea with kids presents. Thanks for the tip!

I was giving my best friend a baby shower and wanted to send real cute and unique baby shower invitations. I found FOUR great websites that not only have cool baby shower invitations, but they also have great birth announcements, Personalized Baby Shower Invitations, Printed Baby Shower Invitations, http://www.express-invitations.com/baby_announcements_birth_announcements/Baby-Birth-Announcements.php" rel="nofollow"> Cute Birth Announcements Cards and Photo Birth Announcements. All sites had tons of baby cards and allowed me to use my own wordings. They even had gobs of sample baby shower sayings. I ordered from Cards-411 and was not disappointed. The baby shower cards were beautiful, and I my friend plans order her birth announcements cards there also!
