Love This Job!

July 10, 2008 11:06 AM

One of the many perks of being President of momAgenda is that I sometimes get invited to really cool events, and last night was one of those events. I attended a screening of one of my favorite shows, The Closer, featuring a Q & A with Kyra Sedgwick! This was a dream come true for me personally because I have been a fan of Kyra ever since the movie "Singles" (yes I am dating myself but that's ok), and Larry and I are HUGE fans of The Closer, we watch it religiously every Monday night during its regular season -- which thankfully, is starting up again next week!
Anyway, the screening was fantastic and made me even more excited about the new season. But the best part was hearing Kyra talk about her life, her husband Kevin Bacon (who she described as "dreamy" -- pretty impressive after 20 years of marriage), and her career.
The most important thing I took away from her talk, and the most relevant to this blog, is when she said this about raising kids while working: "I wish I hadn't felt so g/d guilty all the time." She feels that her kids turned out fine (they are now older teenagers), and she should have enjoyed her career while they were growing up, rather than beating herself up for working. This is music to my ears and also many other moms who have a hard time working while raising a family, and I am going to remember it every time I start beating myself up!
It was also great to meet some of my favorite bloggers in person, like Colleen of Classy Mommy and Jo-Lynne of Musings of a Housewife. Thanks to Beth Feldman of Role Mommy for inviting me to this awesome event. You rock!

Sounds like you had a great time. I love Kyra as well in all her shows, but the closer is one of my favorite of hers. I like your take away from her talk--about beating herself up over the kids and working, etc. That is truly awesome. Thanks for sharing.

That sounds so great, I too love Kyra and her hubby!!! First of all let me say.... I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR PRODUCTS!!! I am hoping to purchase the new all in one here in the near future!!! It is really nice to hear that she wished she hadn't felt quilty! When my little Isabella was 3 Months i went back to work ful time, luckily she is with our parents so it works out great, but I decided I want to pursue cosmetology finally, so as of December I will be leaving my full time job for full time school, and to keep a little income I am taking up a part time graveyard shift, I was determined not to take anymore time from Bella than I already have! I AM SO EXCITED FOR WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS! I know this change will benefit my whole family down the line, so now I am NOT feeling GUILTY!!! Thanks for coming up with such amazing lifesavers! Hopefully you will here from me more and I will definitely be purchasing from you soon!!!!

My husband and I like to spend time in our pool alone together, this seems to be our time to relax and talk and be able to have our time together. We are both in our senior years and now more than ever appreciate our alone time. I enjoy my children and grandchildren but it is nothing like sharing our day, our memories, our dreams and our life together. We both become even "more shriveled" by staying in the pool and enjoying each other's company. He leaves me love notes and I run across them when I least expect it, such as at in a middle of a meeting or left in my car on the steering wheel when I get in to go to work.My husband is my best friend, confident and lover after 38 years.
