Winter Break, but not really

So this is the biggest problem with having 4 kids in 2 different school systems. This week, I have 3 of my kids home from school on winter break. On the other hand, my 12-year-old, who is in a different school, not only has school in session–he has his trimester exams this week. And not only that, his school’s policy is that if you miss an exam because you are on vacation, you get a zero! So that pretty much rules out us going anywhere this week.

I am sure you would all agree that these unstructured weeks home from school can be challenging. How do you get through a week with no routine in place?

Here is my plan:

1. stick to my workout routine so I stay mentally and emotionally in a good place

2. plan tons of playdates so the kids stay busy

3. try not to worry about the mess that will gradually build up in our house over the course of the week

4. work from home (just for a few hours a day) so I can be available to the kids when they need me

How do you handle “staycations” with the kids?
