Do You Eat Your Frog in the Morning?

I just read a blog post that presented a fantastic concept cloaked in rather unorthodox language. We all have certain things we dread doing, whether we are moms or not. It may be emptying the dishwasher, folding laundry, taking the dog out, or cleaning the cat’s litter box. This clever post refers to that most dreaded task as “eating your frog.” Sounds disgusting, right? I agree. But I love the idea of taking that one thing you must do each day, getting it over with first thing in the morning, then forgetting about it until the next day.

For me, eating the frog is exercising. Most days I waste tons of energy thinking about when I will exercise, dreading said exercise, thinking of excuses not to exercise, and generally feeling angst and guilt about my dread of exercise. I know, a lot of energy wasted on something that is really in my best interest. My husband suggested a few weeks ago that I exercise in the morning so that I avoid all that kvetching. I found a small time window that allows me to sleep until 7, work out, and still get the kids to school/camp on time. The trick is hauling my butt out of bed and doing it, and Larry has pretty much taken is upon himself to make sure that happens.

I have to tell you something: it feels REALLY GOOD to have that dreaded exercise out of the way for the rest of the day. It frees me up to think about important things, like what I am going to eat. No really, I have the rest of the day to work, spend time with my kids, and do other things that I actually enjoy. No more dread.

What about you? What is your “frog”, and have your tried eating it first thing in the morning??
