You may have heard about the terrible storm that ripped through the New York area over the weekend. Here in Greenwich, Connecticut, it looks like we had a natural disaster. There are 100-year-old trees down in the roads and on people’s cars and houses, and power lines down everywhere. The grocery store’s roof is completely smashed in and mangled–it looks like a tornado passed directly over it.
Seriously, during the storm, when the 60 mph winds were ripping screens off my house and bringing the water from Long Island Sound down the street all the way up my driveway and front yard (yes it’s true… my neighbor woke up Sunday morning to find a buoy in her yard), I was really wondering if it was the wrath of God paying us a visit. And I am not even a religious person.
With all that being said, the worst part has got to be that they canceled school today and tomorrow. Which makes sense because the power’s out everywhere, not to mention you can’t even get to many of the schools because of all the trees and power lines blocking the roads.
It’s just yet another example of how the carefully choreographed dance of being a working mom all falls apart the minute some unforeseen element appears. Hubby is traveling all week so I am not getting any help there. And I am not really sure how long my babysitter is going to be able to take it, stuck in the house with 4 kids and no tv/internet/movies/video games. I mean, you can play cards and board games for only so long.
So if you don’t hear from me much this week, you will know why. I will be trying desperately to keep my kids entertained, my business running, my house from sinking, and my car from floating away into Long Island Sound. Wish me luck.

Maybe if you WERE religious, you would be able to feel the strength and suport that God really can provide for you during these horendous times!! I am very much in love with our Creator who takes care of me, my family and everyone so if you have just a glimmer that God is real and that HE can and would LOVE to have you lean on Him…then I say go for it! Take that chance!! I promise you……HE will NEVER let you down!! I’ll be praying for you and your family. I had no idea there was so much devastation. Take Care!
How about some models or craft projects? There are a few stores that have those kinds of things just over the line in Westchester at least some of which are definitly open. They could also do a photography project with a digital camera, “the wrath of the storm” and then later in the week when it is supposed to get nice again, they could take after the clean up pictures and when the electricity is back on they can download and create a montage that you can then have turned into a puzzle or scrapbook.
Good Luck holding down the fort.
Good luck! I think you should look into a generator! Lol! I’d go crazy with no electricity! Time to break out the construction paper, glitter and glue and get crafty! If all else fails they can always clean their rooms! Lol!
Books books books! For the older ones, anyway. Sending good thoughts your way–wish I could also forward you some sanity but I’m fresh out! lol
My heart goes out to you. Here in Jersey where my son lives they are so flooded, basement, yard and streets. Trees fallen, wires down. A terrible time. Especially with 4 children. How about a craft day ? Maybe make some Easter crafts or Mother’s day crafts. Painting projects. Just some ideas before they commit you lol I know how bad it can get. My 7 drove me nuts when we were snowed in and school was closed.
