Over the last couple of months I have been loudly preaching the gospel of taking time for yourself–lots of it. Tonight I am practicing what I preach and joining a couple of girlfriends for a night out.
Does a night out with your friends make your life easier? No. Does it help you be more organized? No again. So why am I writing about it here? Because I want you all to do it regularly! Seriously, if we want to be happy moms, we need to take care of ourselves, and one way of doing that is by taking care of our relationships. For a long time when my kids were younger I felt that I only had time for my family and my work. Well now I have changed my mind. I am MAKING time for my friends, because they are important to me.
If you want to look at this on a more clinical level, do you remember that study a few years ago that showed that people who have good friendships actually live longer? You can read about it here. So now you have cold hard data that PROVES that girls’ night out is good for your health and your lifespan.
So call or email your girls and get something on the calendar, if you haven’t already. For those of you who are already in the habit, tell us: What is your favorite way to do girls night out?
