This morning, after I hit the snooze button for approximately the 4th time, my 14-year-old son came into my room, put his hands on his hips, and ordered me to turn off the alarm clock and get out of bed. The fact that he is almost 6 feet tall and has a really deep voice made the whole experience a little disconcerting. He was right, of course; it was almost 7 am and he needed a ride to school. But I didn’t want to get up. I like to savor the warm, cozy comfort of my bed until the last possible minute.
It’s not the first time someone has had to drag me out of bed before I was ready. My friend, Heidi, used to storm into my college dorm room to wake me up for class every morning. Of course, Heidi will want me to note that I use the term “morning” loosely… class started at 11:20. Those were the days!
I have never liked getting up early. But I sometimes wonder if sleeping, and especially sleeping late, is really a colossal waste of time. So many of my friends tell me that they wake up at 6 am, before anyone else in the house is up, and drink their coffee in silence. I have to admit there is something enticing about the thought of drinking coffee by myself, without any distractions or chaos. Similarly, I have many friends who wake up early to work out. I have tried to do this and it usually lasts a few days… then I go back to my old ways. My bed is just so cozy and comfy, and I really think my body is wired for sleeping late.
What do you think? Am I missing out by staying in bed until the last possible moment? Do you use the early morning hours productively, or like me, do you enjoy the cozy comfort of your bed?

Oh I have to admit I can totally relate to this!! I too would love to stay warm in bed! I have never been a morning person, that is until I became a Mom! I can tell you that although my bed is nice and cozy I really am glad that I get up a 4:30AM I drink my coffee in a blissfully quiet house and then have the gym practically to myself. My mornings are so much more enjoyable when I get up early. But I will tell you my secret I sleep in on the weekends, savoring my warm and cozy bed knowing that I don’t have to rush to get up, that is wonderful too! From one non-morning person to another I recommend you try it, you just might like it
The ONLY time I ever actually was up before 6am was when I had opening shifts for Starbucks! Now, I savor every last minute… I don’t have kids yet and am not looking forward to the wake up calls that come with them!
My trick for getting things done? Late night… I am WAY more productive between the hours of 10pm & 2am! I can clean, do homework, listen to music, cook and all in peace & quiet because Hubbs is a morning guy! Haha!
