One of my favorite things about being a mom is creating special traditions with my family. I have carried on a few of the traditions that my mom taught me when I was a kid, but I get most of my ideas for holiday traditions from my friends, most of whom have kids the same ages as mine.
One friend taught me the birthday game, which you play at dinner on each family member’s birthday. The way it works is, you go around the table and everyone says one thing they love about the birthday boy or girl. For example, last night we celebrated my birthday, and I got to hear each of my kids (and my husband) say something they love about me. What could be better than hearing what each family member thinks is special about you? I cherish this tradition. And even though my kids groan about it, I like to think they secretly enjoy it too.
Since Thanksgiving is coming up soon, I would love to hear about YOUR Thanksgiving traditions. What does your family do to make the day extra special? Please share them with us because we are all looking for great ideas!

Our family tradition is actually done after the holiday. My mom, sister and i take my kids to the Christmas Dove. It has all different kinds of Christmas decoration and the kids get to pick there own special ornament for that year to put on the tree. We have been doing it since 1996, the year my oldest son was born. This day always comes with all the holiday drama you can imagine. But i wouldn’t change it for anything.
