The First Day of Summer

For me, this is the first real day of summer. All 4 of my kids are out of school, spring sports are over, and my momAgenda looks strangely bare.

When my day planner looks like this, I feel so calm and serene. Like I have control over my world. Compare to a sample week in early June, when school and spring sports were still in full swing:

As you can probably surmise from the above photo, this spring almost sent me over the edge, sanity-wise. It was a spring during which I frequently forgot to breathe. I spent so many hours each day in my car, driving my 4 kids back and forth to and from various activities, I actually developed a back problem.

So this summer, for me, is going to be all about having no schedule. About casual, unstructured, relaxed activities that don’t require pre-planning. Ideally, these activities will also not require driving. I am envisioning my kids riding their bikes, playing outside until dark, and never once having to stop for homework or lacrosse practice or another appointment.

And hopefully, I will remember how to breathe again.

  1. While I agree with everything you wrote and am aspiring to the same this summer, the busy page of your agenda captivated me because of the abbreviations! Do you have a code? Do others use coding to organize? Is this a stone I have not turned over in my quest for sanilty thru organization?

  2. Yes, I do write in code….it makes total sense to me! Believe it or not, even though I have the Desktop which is a good size at 7″ x 9″, I need to abbreviate otherwise I can’t fit everything. Would love to hear from some others as to whether they are using their own “secret language” in their momAgenda…..:-)
