momAgenda - Goal Setting Guide for 2023

momAgenda - Goal Setting Guide for 2023

WHAT IS GOAL SETTING?

Goal setting is all about identifying something you want to accomplish and establishing measurable objectives and timeframes to help you achieve it. Goal setting can help you in any area of your life. Best of all, there's no right or wrong -- your goals are unique to you, and don't need to look like anyone else's.

Today we are going to focus on how to use your momAgenda day planner, Self-Care Planner or myAgenda day planner to help you track:

1. Fitness Goals

2. Meal Planning Goals

3. Self-care Goals

4. Relationship Goals

5. Work Goals

6. Financial Goals

7. Home Management Goals

HOW TO SET GOALS

What is goal setting to you?

Start by thinking about what you really want. Maybe you want to improve your fitness, or start that book you've been thinking about writing, or incorporate more healthy foods into your diet.

You can do this by setting progressive SMART goals which allow small wins to help you move on to larger achievements.

SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Setting goals that are SMART gives you the direction, milestones and motivation to achieve them. Some examples of SMART goals could be, “I will dedicate 30 minutes every day to exercise” or “I will write 100 pages of my book by the 15th of each month.”

Reminder, you are much more likely to put time and energy into something that excites you, so let your goals reflect that. Think of a goal as a dream with a deadline.

Thinking through your goals and writing them down in your momAgenda, myAgenda or Self-care planner helps keep you accountable.

1. FITNESS GOALS

Dedicate a line in your planner to fitness to keep you accountable and track progress. Set a fitness goal that you can achieve for each week. For example, go to an exercise class 2x a week and go for a walk 3x a week. Then use your planner to track your progress. Get specific! Log your number of steps per day, or the length of your workout.

We recommend the momAgenda Desktop for keeping you on track.

2. MEAL PLANNING GOALS

It's the beginning of the year and many of us are making plans to eat healthier after the decadence of the holidays. The easiest way to stay healthy with meals is to make a plan and then stick to it. Dedicate half an hour or so every weekend to planning meals for the week.

We recommend the Weekly Meal Planner Pad

3. SELF-CARE GOALS

Self-care can mean different things to different people. The important part is listening to your body to determine what your needs are. What do you need to take care of yourself? To mother yourself? It could be rest, meditation, time alone. Or it could be establishing a gratitude practice, setting priorities, and drawing boundaries with others. In 2021, momAgenda launched the Self-Care planner to help you to keep track of your self-care goals.

4. RELATIONSHIP GOALS

Finding the time to date your partner can be hard, especially after having kids. Set a relationship goal for date night once a week to refill your tank and feel more connected to your partner.

It's not just your romantic relationship that needs attention. Set a goal for time with your friends to keep those relationships strong. Research shows that strong social connections make you healthier in the long term. And having time away from your family with friends helps to create balance.

We recommend the myAgenda Desktop for keeping you on track.

5. WORK GOALS

Setting work goals is important as they help to outline a vision of where you want to go with your career. To start, take a personal assessment of how happy you are with your work. What tasks to you like doing and what do you wish you did more of? Then envision what will move you into a place where you are doing more of what you like. Is this by taking a course? Proving your worth to your company and/or boss? If you are self employed maybe it would mean hiring or outsourcing work?

Add work goals into the calendar section of your momAgenda or myAgenda day planner for each month.

We recommend the myAgenda Desktop for keeping you on track.

6. FINANCIAL GOALS

momagenda financial goals

For financial goals, it can be helpful to categorize them as short term and long term. For example, short term can be saving a certain amount of money per week. Long term can be paying off debt, or saving a certain amount for retirement. Keep track of your budgeting goals both in your weekly view in your momAgenda or myAgenda and a list of your longer-term goals in the back.

  • Short-term financial goals: six months to five years
  • Mid-term financial goals: five to 10 years
  • Long-term financial goals: more than 10 years

Set a target date for each goal. Being specific helps, even if you adjust the date over time. If you have a toddler who will be heading to college in 2035, you have a target date for your college savings goal. Want to take a trip across Europe for your 10th wedding anniversary? You know what timeframe you're working toward.

7. HOME MANAGEMENT GOALS

Add in big goals for your home to your goal setting, such as, redo the bathroom or clean out the garage, as well as weekly projects. Your home-related goals don't have to be overwhelming -- break them up into baby steps. For example, say you want to clean out your garage. Each week, make it a goal to tackle just one small aspect of the garage, such as sweeping the floor or organizing just one shelf. In no time the entire big project will be done. For a bathroom remodel, start by picking inspiration images, then picking faucets and tiles, then finding a contractor.

We recommend the Home Office Edition Desktop for keeping you on track.
