Realistic New Year’s Resolutions for Busy Moms

The following is a guest post from momAgendaCOMM blogger Jessica McFadden.

How are your New Year's resolutions doing? I thought that by the end of January I would have lost 20 pounds, reeled in 10 new clients, gone on four hot dates with my husband and transformed my three wild children to perfect little soldiers.   Of course, those goals were too lofty, even for the most ambitious and industrious of mothers.   But I have lost four pounds, gained two new clients, had one nice date and there has been less door slamming from the kids' bedrooms. I have visited the gym and yoga studio more this month than I did last, and I have eaten less white sugar and flour, more vegetables and fiber. These small successes are more attainable and realistic than huge life changes.   This year, rather than making lofty goals, I am sticking to realistic resolutions. I believe that if I work towards these small goals each day, by the end of 2014 I will be one healthy, successful and zen mama!   Less screens, more faces   Less telling, more listening   Less resentment, more forgiveness   Less texting, more talking   Less video games, more board games   Less drive-through, more picnics   Less fruit snacks, more fruit for snacks   Less yelling, more yoga-ing   Less Facebook, more facetime   Less pizza delivery, more pizza-dough kneading   Less coffee gulping, more tea sipping   Less running ragged, more running...period   Less housekeeping, more house loving   Less Wii time, more "WE" time   Less whine, more wine   Less complaining, more praying   Will you join me?   Jessica McFadden is a mother of three children and the founder of A Parent in America, a lifestyle blog for parents and A Parent in Silver Spring, an award-winning site for families in the Washington, DC area.
